Kevin began his coaching career in 1980-1981 with the Little Rhody Aquatic Club in Rhode Island. Since that time he has coached at clubs in Michigan, Florida, and North Carolina. Through the years, Kevin has coached swimmers of all ability levels: Learn-to-Swim, B/C swimmers, Top 16, National Age Group record breakers, National Champions, NCAA Champions, Olympic Trial Qualifiers, World Record Holders, and Olympic Medalists including Dara Torres, Janet Evans, Summer Sanders, Anthony Nesty, and Claire LeMore Walker. He has also coached at many international competitions for the USA, Venezuela, and Suriname. Kevin was on the National Coaching staff from 1992-1997. His club team in Florida won the Women’s National Championship in 1996 with the Men’s team placing fifth and the combined team placing third. He has been an ASCA Certified Level 5 Coach for 13 years, a distinction earned by only 5% of coaches in the country. Kevin is GSA’s head coach and also trains the team’s senior swimmers in the Silver and Gold Groups. Kevin, his wife, Erica, and daughter , Braedy born July 21, 2008 - along with their rescue huskies, D.J. and Ginger, live in the Lake Jeannette area of Greensboro..
Chrissy began swimming for Hamilton Lakes (Community Swim Association swim team) at the age of 5. Chrissy swam for GSA for 11 years. She went on to swim in college at Mount Holyoke where she held the school record in the 1000 yard free-style for ten years. Chrissy also swam in Spain for Gimnasio Madrid for two years and was the Madrid champion in the 800 free in 1988. Since beginning her coaching career with Hamilton Lakes and becoming a GSA coach in the early 1990’s, Chrissy has coached all levels of swimming from bubble blowing to National level swimmers including coaching GSA’s 11-12 Boys to a National relay team record. Since 1992, Chrissy has been the head swim coach at Greensboro Day School where she taught Spanish for eight years, and now is the Upper School Technology Coordinator. Under Chrissy, the GDS swim team has won several conference championships. The GDS Men’s Team won the State Championship in 1996 and 2008. In 2000, both the Men’s and Women’s teams were state champions. Chrissy has a BA in European Studies with a minor in Spanish and Exercise Science and an MA in Spanish Language and Culture. She is the 2008 winner of the YWCA’s Empowerment Award for her commitment to advancing girls in sport and her efforts to eliminate racism. Currently Chrissy is in her ninth year since returning to GSA. She is an ASCA Certified Level 3 Coach for GSA’s Blue Group and can’t think of anywhere she’d rather be than at the pool!
A native Texan, Christina began teaching swimming lessons over 25 years ago. She swam 11 years for the Sugar Land Sharks and coached there for 5 years. She trained with the First Colony Swim Team as her club team. She was head swim coach of the Austin County Club for 2 years and coached both age group and Masters swimmers for Aqua-Tex. During her college years, Christina trained with the Longhorn Masters at the University of Texas where her 200 free relay set a Masters National record. Christina continues to swim competitively for NC Masters. In 2004 she placed sixth in both the 500 free and 1000 free at YMCA Masters Nationals. At the 2004 NC Masters Short Course Championships she won both the 50 free and 1000 free. In 2005 she set the NC Masters state record in the 35-39 age group in the 400 free. After graduating from UT, Christina worked as an investment banker and taught elementary school for 3 years. In Greensboro, Christina has worked as an elementary assistant at Pilot Elementary and Westchester Academy. In 2004-2005 she was the assistant coach for the U11 Jamestown Jammers Blue, a boys challenge soccer team. Christina has also coached for GCY, serving as site-coordinator for the Ragsdale YMCA in Jamestown, and for Sedgefield Swim and Racquet (Grandover). Christina also taught Beginning swimming/Swimming conditioning classes at Guilford College 2007-2009. Christina and her husband have two sons who swim with GSA. She is an ASCA Level 2 Certified Coach and serves as GSA’s Swim School Head Coach and Red Group coach..
Rosemary began swimming in Greensboro when she was a mere 6 months old. With the completion of the YMCA's "Mommy and Me" class, her love of the water was born. Every summer from age 5 to 18, she swam for Greensboro Country Club. She also coached the GCC 8 and under group for three years. In high school, Rosemary competed for Northwest Guilford. Rosemary started teaching swim lessons when she was just 12, and has done so ever since. Rosemary began coaching at GSA in 2003. She works with GSA’s Stroke Schoolers in the afternoons, and then runs home to bed, to be ready to anchor The Good Morning Show on WFMY News 2. She’s an ASCA Certified Level 2 Coach
Brooke Dewitt, a Greensboro native, has been involved in athletics for her whole life. She grew up swimming and playing soccer. She swam for Phoenix, YMCA, Ragsdale High School, and Sedgefield Country Club. She decided to pursue soccer full time and played at Greensboro College before transferring to UNCG. She graduated from UNCG with a degree in Exercise Science and a concentration in Physical Therapy. She never forgot her enjoyment of swimming and returned to the pool to coach for Sedgefield Country Club as the Head Coach for two years and an Assistant Coach for one year. She coaches GSA’s White Group and is an ASCA Level 2 Certified Coach.
Diane began swimming at age 6 in Peoria, IL. At age 10 her family moved to Lynchburg, VA where she swam for the Lynchburg YMCA for 8 years. As an age group swimmer she qualified for Junior Nationals in 6 events. Diane graduated from Appalachian State with degrees in Information Systems and Management. She also competed with the Greensboro Masters Swim Team. Diane and her husband have two daughters who swim for GSA. She is an ASCA Level 2 Certified Coach. Along with GSA’s Stroke School, Diane is one of the team’s Swim School instructors and also teaches swimming at UNCG.
Christi has been swimming since age 10 when she started at Rolling Roads Swim Club. She also swam for Northeast High School and Greensboro College. She has been coaching in the Greensboro area for several years including summer league Head Coach at Lawndale Swim Club 2007-2008. Christi graduated from Greensboro College with a degree in Biology and from UNCG with a degree in Exercise and Sports Science concentrating on Aquatics. She works at Gateway Education Center. She is an ASCA Level 2 Certified Coach and coaches the GSA Yellow Group
Erika started swimming at the age of 3 in Columbus, Indiana for the Donner Swim Club. She swam for Columbus North High School and helped her team win 4 sectional and 2 conference titles. She later coached both teams. Erika went onto swim for Western Illinois University where she was nominated Second Team All-Conference, won Midwest Conference Champs, and holds records in the 400 Free and 800 Free Relays. She received her degree in Therapeutic Recreation with a concentration in English and later obtained a teaching license in Special Education from Indiana University. Erika moved to Greensboro in 2008 to teach for the Exceptional Children’s program at Jamestown Middle School. When she is not at GSA, Erika enjoys being a teacher, reading, and hanging out with her two dogs, Tucker and Ivan. Erika assists with GSA’s Senior groups.
Ed started swimming competitively when he was 6 years old at the Mexico City YMCA and then at the Nelson Vargas Aquatic Club. At the age of 13 he began to not only swim but to also coach for his teams. Ed moved to Greensboro in 1999 and starting working at Friendly Pool. He became a coach at Friendly as well as a swim instructor at Pyramids. He has coached for several USA swim teams. For Ed, being a swim coach is a passion! He coaches GSA’s seniors in the Bronze Group.
Matt started swimming at the age of 5 for Hamilton Lakes and with GSA at age 8. Matt served as an assistant coach for Hamilton Lakes and Ridgewood and was Head Coach at Sedgefield in 2004. He swam for Grimsley High School where he was elected a Captain and won a State Title in the 100 Fly his senior year. Matt also served as North Carolina Swimming’s Athlete Representative to USA Swimming’s Student Athlete Committee. Matt swam at Brown University where he graduated a 4-time Letterman and ranked top 5 in school history in the 100 Fly and 50 Free events. Matt was the Men’s Swim Team representative to the Student Athletic Advisory Committee, a national organization for the improvement and enhancement of college athletics. He graduated in 2005 with a degree in Business Economics. Matt assists with GSA’s Senior groups.
Caitlin is currently a junior at UNCG majoring in Biology. She was raised in Southern Maryland where she began swimming competitively at age 11. She was captain of the Chopticon High School swim team from its initiation her sophomore year through her senior year of high school. She was recognized as an All-Conference swimmer for both the 200 IM and 100 backstroke, and was recognized as a Washington Post Outstanding Athlete for swimming. Caitlin was an assistant coach for the Elks Summer Swim Team in St. Mary’s County Maryland for 2 years before moving to Greensboro to attend UNCG.
Karmen was born and raised in Greensboro and is currently a sophomore at UNCG majoring in Nursing. Karmen has been swimming competitively for 11 years, beginning with Southeast Swim Club. She swam for Southeast High School where she was All-Conference and competed in the 3A Regionals in the 100 meter Breaststroke and the 200 Medley Relay. She was Captain of the team in her senior year and was recognized by the News&Record as Flow Athlete of the Week. She has been an Assistant Coach for the YMCA Bears for 2 years. She works as a Nurse Tech at Wesley Long Hospital. Karmen will be assisting with GSA’s Stroke School, Yellow and White Groups
