Greensboro’s Eugene Godsoe Wins National Collegiate Swimmer of the Week Honors

January 28, 2009- Greensboro’s Eugene Godsoe, who is a junior at Stanford University, led the NCAA Division 1 men’s scoring to win the coveted Counsilman Hunsaker National Collegiate Swimmer-of-the-Week honors. Godsoe had two wins in Stanford’s 191-107 dual meet victory over the University of Arizona on January 24. The All-American won the 100 backstroke and the 200 backstroke and assisted on the winning 400 medley relay and the exhibition 400 freestyle relay.

Godsoe is ranked #1 in the nation in the 100 backstroke and the 200 backstroke events for NCAA Division 1. The Stanford men’s swimming team is currently ranked #3.

Godsoe is the son of Greensboro residents Yoko and Gene Godsoe. He is a graduate of Southeast Guilford High School and swims for The Greensboro Swimming Association when he is in town.
